Potentially Frequently Asked Questions

The main question so far is: when can we see the stuff? We will be 'launching' the beta at SXSW. Until then, check back, as we'll be turning up individual tools as we think they are ready.

Isn't PodServe just like iTunes or Odeo?

No, our objective is to help you create podcast feeds that you can list in various directories like iTunes and Odeo. We don't plan to start a podcast directory, in fact we won't let you list your podcast in our directory page (it is just for podcasts hosted on the system). Think of PodServe as a quick way to create standard, social or public podcasts and iTunes and Odeo as a way to get them into the wild.

What is a public podcast?

Public podcasts are democracy (or anarchy) in action. Anyone (assuming they follow the rules) can add their own show to any public podcast. The owner of the public podcast may chose to moderate additions or they may just let anyone submit. (FYI - public podcasts are just an experiment)

What is a social podcast?

Social podcasts are created by small (invitation only) groups. Don't have time to podcast on a regular basis? Start a social podcast with a small group of friends on a particular topic. A small group can create a compelling podcast and generate an active following. Want to join an existing social podcast? Just ask for an invitation.

What's with Biggu.com?

Biggu is Japanese for big. It's big in japan(ese). You can also access each tool with it's own direct address: podserve.biggu.com

Who is going to use these Big in Japan tools?

People who want to make their far-flung Web lives easier. Mostly prosumer bloggers (almost pros who have a growing Web thing going). They need stats in one place, tools to make feeds & podcasts simple & more powerful. If you want to do more, but focus less on the tools of the trade, we're your huckleberry.

Can I use these tools for free?

Today, yes. We'll always have some free functionality, but we'll phase in a PRO level when we're ready.

For now, play away. And tell us what you think.
